How to fix a suppressed listing on Amazon

A suppressed listing is the one that still exists, still has stock and still shows up in your inventory, yet customers can't find it in search or browse. Amazon hides it on purpose because something on the page doesn't meet its standards, usually a missing image, a missing value or a title that breaks the rules.

The fix is rarely hard. The trick is knowing where Amazon keeps the list and which of the usual suspects tripped the wire. This guide walks through both, then covers the title and image rules that cause most repeat offenses.

Part 01

Step by step

7 steps, in the order Seller Central asks for them.

  1. 01Open Manage All Inventory

In Seller Central, open the menu, click Inventory and select Manage All Inventory. This is where Amazon parks every listing that is hidden from search, along with the reason.

  2. 02Select Activate listings

Choose Activate listings from the horizontal categories at the top. You can view every suppressed listing at once, or use the Listing Status filter to look at one type of issue at a time.

  3. 03Read the reason before you touch anything

Suppression usually comes from missing product information: images, category (item type), titles or price per unit. Variations count too, so a parent SKU and each child SKU must meet the same requirements.

  4. 04Click next steps and fill the gaps

Click next steps, then type the missing values into the editable cells or pick them from the drop-down list, and click Save. Child listings are a common culprit, for example shoes without a department, size or color value.

  5. 05Replace a noncompliant main image

Image is required for all categories except Digital, Alexa and Services. If there is no compliant main image, Amazon may remove the listing from search until one is provided, so upload a MAIN image that follows the product image requirements.

  6. 06Trim the title to the rules

Titles must not exceed 75 characters including spaces, must not repeat a word more than twice and must not carry promotional phrases such as free shipping. Edit the title in Manage All Inventory and move extra detail into Item highlights.

  7. 07Give it 24 to 48 hours, then check again

Amazon checks title fixes automatically and lifts the suppression once the title complies. Title and Item highlights changes can take 24 to 48 hours to show. If nothing changes after 48 hours, edit and resubmit or contact Selling Partner Support.

Titles that pass, and titles that bounce

Passes

  • Lead with the brand, then the product type
  • Use numerals, like 2-Pack
  • Put size and color on child ASINs
  • Capitalize the first letter of each word

Bounces

  • Go past 75 characters
  • Use the same word three times
  • Add free shipping or best seller

Part 04

Tricks the help page buries

The lines in Amazon's own documentation that most sellers scroll past.

  1. 1Two help pages, two numbers. Write to 75.

Amazon's Suppressed listings page still mentions under 80 characters for apparel, shoes and luggage and 130 for everything else. Its newer title requirements page sets a 75-character limit for all product types except media. Write to the stricter one and you'll never argue with either.

  2. 2Fix the parent, then every child

Suppression rules apply to variations as well. If a listing comes in five sizes, the parent SKU and each child SKU must meet the requirements, so one blank color value on one size can hide that child from search.

  3. 3Never upload a placeholder image

Amazon says the first image uploaded defines the product identity, so a temporary placeholder can cause your real image to be blocked from upload. Wait until the final photo is ready.

  4. 4Use Item highlights instead of stuffing the title

Once your title fits the 75-character limit, you can add Item highlights, which give you another 125 characters for things like materials or use cases. Write them as comma-separated phrases, not full sentences. They show below the title in search results.

  5. 5Don't resubmit during the wait

A title change is accepted right away but can take 24 to 48 hours to appear. Amazon says this is normal and you don't need to resubmit or open a case during that window. Patience is a strategy here.

Questions sellers ask

Tap a question to open it.

What is a suppressed listing on Amazon?

A suppressed listing is a non-media listing that Amazon hides from search and browse because it doesn't meet certain standards, often missing images, category (item type), titles or price per unit. Customers can't find a suppressed listing in search until you add the missing information and it meets Amazon's requirements.

Where do I find my suppressed listings in Seller Central?

Open the menu, click Inventory and select Manage All Inventory, then choose Activate listings from the horizontal categories. You can view all suppressed listings there or use the Listing Status filter to see one type of issue. Click next steps on a listing to see what it needs.

How long does it take for a suppressed listing to come back?

For title fixes, Amazon checks compliance automatically and lifts the suppression when the title meets requirements. Title and Item highlights changes can take 24 to 48 hours to be processed and displayed. If the change still isn't visible after 48 hours, edit and resubmit it or contact Selling Partner Support.

Can a bad main image get my listing suppressed?

Yes. Amazon requires an image for every category except Digital, Alexa and Services. If there is no main image that meets the product image requirements, Amazon may temporarily remove the listing from search until you provide a compliant main image, such as one on a pure white background.

What is the character limit for an Amazon product title?

Amazon's product title requirements say titles must not exceed 75 characters, including spaces, for all product types except media. After you meet that limit, you can add Item highlights, which allow another 125 characters of comma-separated product details that show below the title in search results.

Why is my child variation suppressed when the parent looks fine?

Amazon suppresses incomplete child listings too. Shoes need department, size and color values, consumables in Grocery, Beauty, Pets and Health and Personal Care need a unit count and value, and watches and luggage need a department. Each child SKU must meet the requirements on its own.
